Truth in the Tinsel: An Advent Activity Book for Kids and Parents

A friend recommended this e-book to me, Truth in the Tinsel.

It is an ADORABLE advent activity book for kids and parents. This book was created by a mom who wanted to help her child realize that Jesus was the real reason for the season! So, for the first 24 days of December, she read a passage of scripture and made a simple ornament for the tree with her child, while discussing the Christmas story. I purchased the book for only $2.99, and I already LOVE it! It is detailed, structured, and already planned for me. Yay!

So if you were looking for a way to help your little ones focus on the real reason for the season, go grab this little book today!

Quilted Advent Calendar

I originally posted this over at Mustard Seeds, but there is still a very, very small amount of time left if you'd like to whip one of these up before December 1st! ...And it's no big deal if you're a couple of days late. ;)

I made this advent calendar by slightly varying a pattern from Oh, Fransson! She has some super cool quilting patterns and ideas! Go check it out!

Custom Hats, and I Need Your Opinions!

So, here are a couple of custom hats I made for a client.

For the first hat, I want your opinions. It's an electric guitar, as you can see....

Should it be left plain?

Should I add this lightning bolt?

Should I add this black star? (Forgive me for not taking off the lightning bolt underneath...) I can possibly make the star a bit smaller. Should I try the star in red?

Do you have any other ideas/suggestions?

I thought about adding black yarn to make guitar strings, but the neck of the guitar is too thin, and can barely hold two strands of yarn. I then considered embroidery thread, but it would be super duper hard to get the line straight, it stretches at a different rate than the yarn, and even with that, I could probably only get three strands. So, I'm open. What are your thoughts!?!?

And I'm really happy with my skills accomplishing this second hat. Please refrain from political comments. It was a custom request. ;)

Sew Vintage: Singer Sewing Library - How to Make Bedspreads

Today's Sew Vintage is the 1960 Singer Sewing Library booklet, "How to Make Bedspreads." It originally sold for $0.25.

This is seriously one of those vintage finds that you can use FOREVER. The measurements and tips will always be useful, regardless of how styles change!

(PLUS, you can learn to make these SUPER DUPER fancy tablecloths.)

The Thanksgiving Apron

This is another of our little Thanksgiving traditions that I thought I'd share.

It's pretty self-explanatory, so I'll let the pictures do the talking. ;)

These pictures are from last year, and my babies have grown SO MUCH in the last year! AAHHH!!! Make it stop!!!

Anyway, I do think this will be a neat thing to give to my kiddos when they are all grown up... 'cause I'm feeling like that is inevitable. ;)

PS - Make sure you enter to win the Black Friday GIVEAWAY!

Thanksgiving Book of Thanks

Today, I want to share one of our Thanksgiving traditions with you! I originally shared this over at Mustard Seeds, but here it is for my crafty friends!

Essentially, this is a spiral scrapbook. I sewed a quilted cover for it, and every year since 2007, we have written things we are thankful for inside the book.

The very best, and FUNNIEST parts of the Thanksgiving Book of Thanks are the things the kids are thankful for! ;) Ephraim has been thankful for things like the letter "W," and "arff, arff." It's hilarious, and those are memories you don't want to forget! So, grab a book and start keeping track of all that you are thankful for this year!

Honey Do: Paper Plate Turkey

Okay, so this isn't a paper plate... but I am going to use it as inspiration for a kids craft! :)

The Bearded Man!

These beard hats are super popular right now, so I was excited to get an order for one from a friend!

Check it out!

My husband said it made him feel like this guy....

Yukon Cornelius!!!

So, that's pretty sweet, just in time for the holidays!

Seriously though, I think I'm going to have to make him one with a red hat. ;)
